Lonely Drifter Karen – Comet

Sometimes you are struck by a song by the sheer talent of the musicians; sometimes it’s the pop singer’s chops; sometimes it’s the polish or the rough edges and sometimes it is none of those things.  Lonely Drifter Karen, here on Comet, from their 2012 long-player Poles, doesn’t break any new ground, the instrumentation is OK the vocal is a little hard to get your mind around, but somehow in spite of all of this the song embeds itself in your brain and…

Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes – Love Letter

Even though Amy Winehouse is gone, the pop-soul revival that she helped bring back is alive and well. Julian Velard – Do It Alone

Julian Velard’s brand of pop is rhythmic-nearly steeped in rhythm and blues-upbeat and lyrically adept.  Here on Do It Alone, from his 2009 long-player The Planeteer, Julian explores the age-old relationship issues on loss in an positive light.  He may be singing about the sadness of his lost relationship but you’ll still be tapping your feet to the beat. You can find more information on Julian Velard from his web site, which includes all of the social links you would expect, as…

Nighty Night, the six-song 2011 EP from the group is available from bandcamp.com for a lousy buck.  This is music for the fun of it, literally. Check out of 8in8 by visiting their web site and pick up…

Jack Cheshire – Paperhouse

Paper House is one of ten dreamy folk-pop gems on the 2011 long-player, Copenhagen, from British singer-songwriter Jack Cheshire. It is beautiful, a bit psychedelic and totally worthy. Cheshire’s voice, is effective and somewhat breathy. The song arrangement is not over-blown, with just the right touches of background vocals and spare instrumentation. If you close your eyes, you won’t need a video with this music, you can simply imagine your own.  That said, the video here fits perfectly with the song. You can find…
