Dawes – A Little Bit Of Everything

I have absolutely fallen in love with this song and the story. Dawes may not think of themselves as  folk, but this is an absolutely great story.  The lyrics are poignant and timely in any era.  A Little Bit of Everything is about living fully, but there is so much more here; Life, loss, love, in short, A Little Bit of Everything.  The song is from the band’s 2011 release Nothing is Wrong. You can find out more information on Dawes by visiting…

First Aid Kit – Emmylou

The breathy delivery of Swedish female folk sister duo  First Aid Kit  (Johanna and Klara Söderberg) is intoxicating and as with any drug, habit forming.  Here on Emmylou, they show their just-under-the-radar country styles, and it isn’t corny or cheap.  It is, however, beautiful.  These two can sing and harmonize perfectly.  Emmylou is from the January 2012 full-length The Lion’s Roar. You can find out more information on First Aid Kit, by visiting their web site. (yes, all the social links are there as well)  Check…

Sola Rosa – Love Alone (feat. Spikey Tee)

The lightly flavored reggae popper, Love Alone, from Sola Rosa (featuring Spikey Tee) is summertime chill music with a head bopping edge.  Love Alone, from 2010, has been recently remixed yet again (Sola Rosa has a boat load of remix offerings on their bandcamp site), but this is a great version-perhaps better than the latest remix-and the video is top-notch as well. I love the changing vinyl LP jackets and the video within the sleeve bit! If this is your…

The Western States Motel – Powerlines

First, a disclaimer: The Western States Hotel have newer music out-most recently Freeway Freeway Riverbed from 2011, but this is a video blog, and the only video I could find from the band is this lone entry from 2007. It’s a great song, so there’s no reason for feeling guilty about it, I think it’s a little odd in this day and age, when a group or band doesn’t use everything at their disposal to market themselves.  But hey, that’s my…

Hey Geronimo – Why Don’t We Do Something

I haven’t laughed this hard in awhile. The video for Why Don’t We Do Something? from Brisbane Australia’s Hey Geronimo, is just one of the funniest music videos in a long time. Using real life video games, such as Plants Vs. Zombies and Angry Birds (to name two), the band’s ode to action is graphically displayed. The music is delightfully up-beat pop that will keep your foot tapping while you watch. Hey Geronimo released their five-song EP in June, of…
