Sea Of Bees – Gnomes

Delightfully odd with a quirky chirrup-like delivery, folk singer and songwriter, Julie Baenziger is the creative muse behind Sea of Bees.  This 2010 release of Gnomes from the full-length Songs for the Ravens, captures the true essence of Julie.  From there, the music speaks for itself, as all great folk music does. Check out Sea of Bees by visiting their web site, and watch for their new release due out sometime this year.     (Source: http://www.seaofbees.com/ )

Fall Walk Run – Built To Last

Fall Walk Run is another band that I originally found while searching through Jamendo.com, where the band posted it’s 2011 EP and initial release, Throwing it All Away.  The indie duo from Wolverhampton, UK, (Stuart Eves and Lawrence Harvey) currently write and record music from their home studio there.  You can download the EP for free by clicking the link above, or visiting the band on it’s web site.  In addition, you will find links to all of the most social hot spots…

Leesha Harvey – Let’s Play Pretend

Note: Video no longer available Just realized that I missed a day, so I’m filling in with one of my favorite Nebraska singer-songwriters, Leesha Harvey and Let’s Play Pretend.  The song was glaringly absent from her 2011 release, Church Lofts and Basement Corners. While the song is bouncy and fun, the lyrics and the cool homemade video belie a much darker reality.   Leesha Harvey makes her home in Central Nebraska and is a full-time mom and student these days, leaving her little time for creativity. In a recent off-the-cuff visit with Leesha, she swears that she will be back to her music-making tricks once…

Speed The Band – Angelina Dreams

Speed the Band tells stories in a wonderful, lyrical way, and singer Carrie Speed Owsley has the perfect voice for story telling.  The band, made up entirely of family and extended family members, is accomplished and the melodies are delightfully infectious. You can check them out by visiting them on Facebook. (Source: https://www.youtube.com/)

Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know (feat. Kimbra)

I’ve been enthralled with the sound of Gotye (a.k.a., Wally De Backer) since he’s made it up top on the playlist for KCRW’s Eclectic 24 channel.  The late 2011 release from Gotye, Making Mirrors, is full of strange rhythms, found sounds, solid song-craft, elements of hip-hop, electronic music and much more.   Underneath all the musical craft, is a sense of humor that is laugh-out-loud funny.  Check out the bio from the Gotye web site for proof! Somebody That…
