Scott Mellis – Lioness

Lioness is one of several singles released by popster Scott Mellis in 2011. It’s a simple love song but has some nice textures. Scott has a beautiful voice that lends itself to such moderate tempo numbers. Lyrically this is a strong song too, with some nice wordplay. “I will abide, and caress. I’ll be your hunter, you my lioness,” sings Scott at the beginning of the song. Scott Mellis recently released a six-song EP, Live and Acoustic, in December 2012.  You can find more information on Scott Mellis by visiting his all-inclusive (except for the bandcamp.com link) website. Half Moon Run – Full Circle

While perusing bandcamp.com, I came across the Canadian pop-rock of Half Moon Run and this delightful gem, Full Circle from the band’s March 2012 full-length, Dark Eyes. The melody is haunting and the rapid staccato vocal delivery is a great contrast to the instruments. Think of this music as a strange melding of 60’s folk and pop with today’s alternative and then combine a progressive rock element with that, and you will be close to the recipe for Half Moon Run. The…

Little Hurricane – Haunted Heart

It was just a month ago or so that I posted Give Em’ Hell from the absolutely amazing pop-rock duo, Little Hurricane, but I can’t help myself! I must post from them again. Here on Haunted Heart, from the 2012 long-player Homewrecker, they prove that they are the real deal, a force in consistently interesting song-craft.  I can’t emphasize this enough: If you love good pop-rock, then you should purchase the reasonably priced Homewrecker now! As always, you can find more information about Little…

Minttu & Olli – Dear Ford

Thanks to The Talent Meets Potential blog, for getting me started on the fun folk frankness of Minttu and Olli. This duo is based out of Helsinki and here on Dear Ford, they twist the elevator into a fun concert stage and fill it with their sparse instruments. The result is a very intimate, live feel. Near as I can tell there are no EP’s or full-lengths out yet, but you can check their material out in earnest by visiting their…

Marian Call with Awkward Embraces – Dear Mr. Darcy

Marian Call has some real talent. My disappointment is the wealth of music and the dearth of studio video content. Here on Dear Mr. Darcy, though, Marian (with Awkward Embraces) makes up for some lost opportunities. This fun romp through the difficulties in cultivating romance is worth the wait.  Dear Mr. Darcy is from Marian Call’s double-CD digipack (or digital download if you prefer) Something Fierce (October 2011), available for a reasonable $15 or more from bandcamp.com. Check out…
