T Sisters – Woo Woo

Folk music has never been as much fun as when it is written and performed by the T Sisters! Take a listen to Woo Woo here from the sister’s long-player, Kindred Lines (May 2014) and see if you don’t agree.  Erika, Rachel, and Chloe Tietjen are the T Sisters, with musical roots that run deep in their family. Their mother was a dancer and their father a musician, so they have rhythm and music in their veins-and it shows! Their music is getting them…

Shakey Graves – Dearly Departed

A pretty darned funny video look at bad breakups, Dearly Departed (above), from Shakey Graves October 2014 long player, And The War Came, is also a stellar folk-rock number. If you count the 8-song EP Donor Blues from 2012 as a long-player instead of an EP, then And The War Came is really Shakey Graves’ junior effort. And The War Came is one large part mid-tempo folk (Only Son, Hard Wired, Family and Genius, Big Time Nashville Star) with a touch of rock thrown…

Wyvern Lingo – Snow

Frequenters of Vodka will remember that Wyvern Lingo has appeared here before about 3 months ago. Their latest video released last month (November 2014) for Snow is a well deserved refresher course on the wonderful song-craft and three part harmonies that these ladies create.  If you needed a reminder of how great the EP, The Widow Knows (August 2014) is, then there’s no better reminder than this video for Snow. Head on over to their bandcamp.com link and make a purchase, and make sure you…

Charlotte Campbell – Streets of London

Charlotte Campbell has a pretty voice, an energetic and enthusiastic delivery and a love for the streets of London. (I’m serious) Charlotte has spent a good deal of time on those streets as a street performer, earning money to live while garnering an ever growing fan base. Here on Streets Of London, all of that energy and talent is evident. Because she has been content to grow her fans slowly, she has been able to maintain a dedication to her music unfettered…

2014: A look back at Vodka’s last 12 months

At the beginning of 2014, Vodka changed its video review timetable to once per week, which makes listing the top 40 tracks for the previous year seem pretty silly. Instead, this year we are just going to look back on what I think are some of Vodka’s high points, musically. As always, your mileage may vary.  Way back at the beginning of the year we posted Vera Jonas title track for her 2013 long-player, Game, a funky track with plenty of dance moves in the video. It is such a fun song, that it deserves mention again. Ten months ago or so, we…
