Little Hurricane – Give Em Hell

It has to be a pretty exceptionally awesome live performance that makes it to the video blog. Generally, I’m looking for a high-quality studio video, or at minimum, a well recorded personal effort. This video (recorded live in 2010) for Give Em Hell from Little Hurricane’s 2012 debut long-player, Homewrecker, is a live performance, but it is recorded very well, with the intent to highlight the duo’s performance, not the crowd noise.  Give Em Hell is a bluesy, at times sweet and…

Meg Myers – Tennessee

Back in August 2012, I posted the wonderful and awful Monster from Meg Myers EP, Daughter In The Choir. Meg has a way with interesting subjects, including the fun wordplay of Tennessee. This song tweaked my Son’s interest, so I thought I would bring back Meg Myers again for a reprise. You can find info on Meg Myers from her web site, and “yes” the EP is still absolutely, 100% free. Courtney Barnett – History Eraser

Australian alternative singer-songwriter-guitarist, Courtney Barnett, truly has some fun making music. Vocally, History Eraser, from her new EP due out in 2013, is nearly spoken word. Lyrically and musically, the grunge pop delivery is a bit psychedelic. While it may sound a bit odd (and it is a bit odd), it is also a formula that works very well for Ms. Barnett.  You can find more about Courtney Barnett by visiting her web site, which includes purchase links for the single from i-Tunes…

The Breedings – Turn

Steeped in Country, The Breedings, made up of singer/songwriter Willie Breeding and big sister and singer Erin Breeding, make beautiful stories and melodies. That said, their 2011 full-length debut, Laughing At Luck, had more than it’s share of rock edginess too. Suffice it to say that The Breedings are not locked in any one genre and have enough talent to pull off different styles like chameleons. Here on 2010’s Turn, the two stay more to the Country formula, but without the twang so…

Midlake – Acts of Man

From the 2009 release of folk-rock, indie-rock band, Midlake, comes this dark song of betrayal and forbidden love.  Acts of Man, the video painted in a style of a 1920’s silent film, casts a long shadow on humanity, with this haunting and terrible, yet beautiful song.  Formed in 1999, this Denton, Texas band, has had less than it’s deserved impact on the music industry.  Explore this track, as well as others from Midlake. Check out the band, releases and other links by visiting their Web Site.  (Source:…
