Snarky Puppy – Thing Of Gold

Thanks to Miss Melissa from 97.3 (the Wolf) in Grand Island, NE, for getting me started with Snarky Puppy. One amazing video later, a couple of repeat plays and I’d purchased the equally wonderful full-length CD/DVD combo Ground Up, which included Thing of Gold as the lead off track. Snarky Puppy isn’t so much a band as a collective of musically diverse musicians that are extremely accomplished in their craft.  The music is awe-inspiring, mesmerizing and leaves you strangely satisfied, yet wanting more….

Sharon Van Etten – For You

The plaintive Sharon Van Etten strikes singer-songwriter gold with this folk-pop gem, For You.  Sharon just released her long-player Tramp in February and has received some notable notoriety from the likes of NPR and others of late. For You is from her 2009 release Because I Was In Love. If you’ve not heard of Sharon, then it’s high time that you did. Check her out on her web site and her MySpace page, and pick up your copy of Tramp now. (Source: https://www.youtube.com/)

Someday Jacob – Rain

Simple, like a whisper, Someday Jacob takes Rain and makes a vision from the drops.  There’s nothing particularly new or different about their sound, and yet it is mesmerizing.  You listen because you feel you have to hear it to the end.  It’s delightfully repeatable too.   The band’s web site is a bit rough, but you can get a little more information there. You can also find more music and information on their MySpace page.  Check out, Someday Jacob. (Source: https://www.youtube.com/)

Fred Haring – Wear White To My Funeral

Sometimes musicians, artists, are lost in the cracks.  So it goes with Fred Haring, and that’s just too bad.  Haring’s music was country rock raw, and yet it is so heart-felt.  He could sing sweetly (Sleepytime Prayer) or in the rough abandon of Wear White To My Funeral. But I think it’s fair to say that Fred Haring has lost his faith in the music business.  You need only read between the lines on his web site. That said, he has made…
