Malachy Tuohy – Most Of The Time
Malachy Tuohy of The Riptide Movement is poised to release his debut LP, I Cross This Universe, on June 16th, 2023. Most Of The Time (seen/heard here) is from that forthcoming LP and is a wonderful example of Tuohy’s down-to-earth songwriting. Lyrically the LP explores the human condition in all its forms, touching on themes of love, loss, hope, grief, and more. Most Of The Time’s lyrical message is about love and the difficulty of communication.
As singer-songwriters go, Tuohy’s magic is in the careful crafting of intimate musical landscapes that lend themselves well to a message that can be heard through the lyric and are textualized by the music itself. That said, there is a whole lot of beauty in that music. You get a feel for that on Most Of The Time, but having listened to the pre-release copy of I Cross The Universe, there is much more. From the grandness of the title track to the quiet wonder of Requiem, there is a lot to take in musically. Each track is a mini-masterpiece that will require (at minimum) two listens to experience both the lyric and the music. Unfortunately, Vodka doesn’t have the time at the moment to do a track-by-track breakdown of each track but suffice it to say that this LP will be well worth the purchase price.
You can find more information on Malachy Tuohy by heading up to his website, which includes social, streaming, and purchase links. The biography in the “About” link is a bit slim and could use some additional detail, but overall everything is there, which means he’s one up on many artists out there.
I don’t want to diminish this LP in any way, and I wish I had time to dig through each track and give them the time they deserve. You should watch for this release on the 16th of June and pick it up when it comes out. Most Of The Time is a great introduction to the LP. Check out I Cross This Universe in the purchase and streaming links coming your way in the middle of next month!
