Riley Downing – Deep Breath

Slow and steady wins the race, just like the tortoise and the hare, Riley Downing’s Deep Breath (seen/heard here) is absolutely about that. He’s in no rush. Deep Breath makes us think twice about thinking too much and the video is full of humor that if you are like Vodka, you’ll be laughing to within a few seconds of the starting bell. As already intimated, lyrically Deep Breath is your conscience:

“I was getting tired
Of always looking down
My eyes where always fixed on
Something on the ground
Hands were in my pockets
Head was in the clouds
Thinking ‘bout something
Don’t matter now
Thinking ‘bout something
Don’t matter now

Try to walk it off
Try to get some rest
Drink a lot of water
And fight like the best
Try to get your head screwed
Back on tight

Take a deep breath
(Inhale…..exhale)
It’s gonna be alright”

Musically, Deep Breath intentionally plods along. If you are truly going to get your “head screwed back on tight” then you’ve got to take it slow, and that’s just what Downing does with this song. It’s a medium-slow blues shuffle that is absolutely fitting for this track and perfect for a line dance of some sort. Great song! Great sentiment! Seriously, “It’s gonna be alright!”

You can find more information on Riley Downing by heading up to his website, but not much. The “About” section might as well be empty. There is no biography available.  There’s a link to Facebook, Instagram and Spotify posted, however no link to his bandcamp.com site.  The purchase link on the website gives you the label (New West Records) purchase page. In spite of these marketing oversights, Riley Downing’s  Deep Breath is more than worthy of purchase on its own. You can pick it up as part of a new long-player, Start It Over, due out very soon, on the New West or bandcamp.com sites mentioned.

Check out the track that makes positivity a lifestyle, by streaming Deep Breath now! Pick up Start It Over which releases in two days, May 14, 2021!

Note: With Covid-19 still around, probably to be with us for some time, artists like Riley Downing and many others need your purchases to keep their heads above water. If your situation allows it, consider purchasing more in these tough times. –Vodka
