I’ve only one complaint about Rebecca Shearing’s new EP, Paper Lung (October 2012), and that is the mix.  Rebecca’s voice is obviously powerful and full, but as demonstrated by the title track here, it is beneath the instruments in the mix. Rebecca Shearing has first-rate pop vocal chops, and though Paper Lung (the song) breaks not so much as a thimble of new ground musically, it does show the talent and ability of this young singer and highlights the promise of things to come. You can check out Rebecca Shearing by visiting her web site, which includes most social links, or…

Jennah Barry – Slow Dance

Sweet, simple folk-pop melodies with sincere delivery.  That should be the by-line for Jennah Barry’s long-player, Young Men.  Slow Dance paints a picture of a waiting (wife, girlfriend, lover) who want’s her man to come and dance with her when he gets home.  It’s that simple, but the melody is so catchy that it will be echoing in your head long after the song finishes. Check out Jennah Barry on her Facebook, MySpace or Bandcamp sites. (Source: https://www.youtube.com/)

The New Electric Sound – Heart Beat

The New Electric Sound mines musical history archives to create their brand of pop-rock goodness.  It’s a formula used many times before but not always this successfully. Check out the video for the band’s single, Heart Beat, from their self-titled long-player released September, 2012. These are sounds you’ve heard before-a hook filled melody, syncopated guitar and drum work and fine tenor lead vocal delivery. In short, The New Electric Sound doesn’t break new ground here; It simply re-invents it in the band’s…
