Cheyenne Marie Mize – Wishing Well

Back in February, I posted the fine music of Cheyenne Marie Mize in the form of Friend. Just heard this song recently and it reminded me of how much I liked the music of Cheyenne. Say hello and welcome to the bluesy, nearly acapela rendering of Wishing Well, from her 2012 EP (vinyl only as far as I can tell) We Don’t Need. As always, check out Cheyenne Marie Mize on her web site. Yes, you’ll find the various social links there too….

Delta Rae – Bottom Of The River

Deep blues, hard pumping soul, and a band of passionate musicians. That’s the feel you get from Delta Rae and from Bottom Of The River, the first single from the bands debut full-length, Carry The Fire.  The full and powerful voice of Brittany Holljes leads the bands raucous vocal delivery, while brothers Ian and Eric share song-writing and performing credits, and friend Elizabeth Hopkins fleshes out the vocals.  From the first note, you know this is a band to be reckoned…

Dumpstaphunk – Meanwhile

Born out of the blues, rhythm and blues and funk, Dumpstaphunk is a force of it’s own-one that you should stand up and take notice of. Black Prairie – Red Rocking Chair

There’s no other way to describe 2010’s Red Rocking Chair by Portland, Oregon’s Black Prairie other than extremely sad.  There is loss here-deep heart-breaking loss.  The kind of loss that there is seemingly no way out from or to. Though musically drastically different in style, Black Prairie is partly made up from members of the Decemberists (Chris Funk, Nate Query and Jenny Conlee). Vocal duties on the rare vocal cuts are handled by Annalisa Tornfelt, who’s breathy vocal adds to the…

Madeleine Peyroux – The Kind You Can’t Afford

Bluesy, Jazzy, with just the right touch of pop, I love Madeleine Peyroux, and this track is particularly wonderful.  I first heard Madeleine on the 2004, best of the year review version of Morning Becomes Eclectic (KCRW radio-check them out online).  I promptly bought the 3 CD’s I could get my hands on, and they are all excellent.  This track, however, is much newer, so I guess I’ll have to go on another buying spree.  Check out Madeleine on…
