The James Arthur Band – Funkin’ In The Moonlight

A little bit of Funk and a whole lot of R&B. Enter The James Arthur Band and Funkin’ In The Moonlight, (which is a huge play on words!) from the bands first long-player, The EP Collection (October 2012). There’s plenty of eye candy (if you’re a male, that is) in the video which was supposedly recorded at a beach party shortly after recording the song. While the video is quite seductive, there’s nothing here that you might not see on…

The Apples – Tribute To Amy Winehouse

The Apples are jazz, hip-hop, turntable, ska fusion from Israel, and the sound is simply awesome! Here on their tribute to Amy Winehouse (a cover of You Know I’m No Good) shortly after Amy’s death in 2011, you can feel the emotion and the performance vibe. The band must be something to see live. The Apples released their latest long-player, Fly On It, in August 2012. You can find more information on The Apples by visiting their web site, which has social…

Dumpstaphunk – Meanwhile

Born out of the blues, rhythm and blues and funk, Dumpstaphunk is a force of it’s own-one that you should stand up and take notice of. Here they perform Meanwhile which talks about how the world moved on while those in New Orleans suffered in their post hurricane Katrina world. There’s no need in me blabbing on and on about the music. You can feel it in your gut-in your toes. In short, it will speak, you just have to listen. You can find a…

The Aquaducks – Fuel The Funk

Note: Video no longer available. Jazz-infused R&B Funk can’t be all bad, and The Aquaducks prove that it ain’t bad at all!  Check out Fuel the Funk, and start jamming! The killer sax leads in as if you are in for a mellow jazz number, and then everything just kicks. Great fun and great music! You can obtain Fuel the Funk from any one of four sites for free (try bandcamp for starters), hopefully, the band will work up some more tunes in this vein and release a full length in the near future. Want more information? The band has no cohesive…

Snarky Puppy – Thing Of Gold

Thanks to Miss Melissa from 97.3 (the Wolf) in Grand Island, NE, for getting me started with Snarky Puppy. One amazing video later, a couple of repeat plays and I’d purchased the equally wonderful full-length CD/DVD combo Ground Up, which included Thing of Gold as the lead off track. Snarky Puppy isn’t so much a band as a collective of musically diverse musicians that are extremely accomplished in their craft.  The music is awe-inspiring, mesmerizing and leaves you strangely satisfied, yet wanting…
