Tommy Newport – Yellow Lines

Tommy Newport, combines a touch of spoken word, with a great little rock / R&B tune, layered with beats and an infectious melody on Yellow Line (seen/heard here). My only complaint with this one is that it could have lasted a bit longer than the 2 minutes and change it takes to listen. That said, the music doesn’t wear thin either.

There’s nothing groundbreaking about this track, it’s simply quite good, and there’s nothing wrong with that! As you listen, see if you can avoid tapping your foot or bobbing your head. Good luck with that. As comfortable on the dance floor as it is coming out of your speakers in your living room, Yellow Line is a song that you can’t quite get enough of.

Hailing from the Midwest, Tommy Newport was a transplant from the UK at an early age. He eventually ended up in Wichita Kansas and picked up the guitar to fill up the boredom of the simple life.

Now for some good and bad: Newport has a website, but it isn’t much help with information or much else. The Facebook page is active, but the “About” section is pretty minimal. The Twitter account is non-existent, even though there is a link to it on the bandcamp.com site. You can pick up some of his music from his bandcamp.com site, including his 2018 long-player, Just To Be Ironic. You can pick up Yellow Lines on his Apple Music site, along with some of his other tracks. I Gotta say though that this is a bit frustrating. If you are maintaining sites for music purchases, you should have everything everywhere as much as possible.  From a marketing perspective, an artist should link all of your sites together as much as possible and make sure that any dead links are deleted. The only site that links to most everything is the bandcamp.com site.

Marketing and purchase negatives aside, Tommy Newport has a definite appeal that deserves an addition to any collection. Pick up some Tommy Newport music now!

Note: With Covid-19 still around, probably to be with us for some time, artists like Tommy Newport and many others need your purchases to keep their heads above water. If your situation allows it, consider purchasing more in these tough times. –Vodka
