Maria Mase – Scream Video V2

The byline of this blog is “Music that isn’t the same old thing…mostly” and for the most part, that is true. Sure there’s plenty of pop, folk, alt-country, funk, blues, and most genre’s in the middle, but the harder edged tunes are largely missing. Enter Marla Mase whose music most definitely fits the byline to the letter and also comes with a harder edge. Speak, the long-player from which Scream (above) comes, is meant to be heard in it’s entirety from beginning to end. It’s a concept album to be sure, but also a story that is about speaking out for injustices and acting on our instincts for right.

Marla Mase is not just a musical performer, but also a writer, producer, singer and songwriter. She just finished performing Speak (the show) in Herbert Von King Park in Brooklyn, NY. Just listening to the powerful lyrics and music (music co-written by band leader, Tomás Doncker) will give you insight into what this show must have been like.

There is a plethora of information on Marla Mase to be found on her web site, which includes purchase links for Speak from CD-Baby, Amazon and i-Tunes. In addition, you can pick up the CD from her bandcamp.com link. Check out Marla Mase now!
