Mikaela Davis – I’m Just Tryin’ To Be Your Friend

Note: The original video is gone. This one isn’t quite as good overall, but it works:

Indie pop harpist (yes, that’s right, I didn’t stutter) Mikaela Davis creates fluffy pop gems with an instrument more attuned to classical chamber music than pop. It’s an element that sets Ms. Davis apart from her contemporaries and makes for an intriguing sound. On top of that, Mikaela Davis has a sweet yet powerful voice, which stands out here on I’m Just Tryin’ To Be Your Friend from her July 2012 self-titled long-player.

As you know from reading other Vodka posts, I believe that musicians should strive to create something of themselves in their music. Imitation may be the highest form of flattery, but it is extremely boring to listen to someone who is simply trying to sound like the last big hit on the radio. Mikaela Davis meets the criteria for that creative pulse, while remaining entirely accessible.

Along with the original long-player, Ms. Davis has a new (January 2014) EP, Fortune Teller. Both the long-player and the new EP are available on Mikaela’s bandcamp.com site.

You can find a lot of information on Mikaela Davis by visiting her website, which includes all of her social links, performance schedule, and more. Check out this great pop artist now and consider a purchase of one of her wonderful releases!

Note: The original video was pulled and is no longer available. Another version exists with Mikaela, drummer and bass player, but the overall sound is harsh and the vocal is under mixed. Mikaela continues to make interesting and wonderful pop music, so check out her website for more. – September 2018 Updated again December 2021 with the video here.
