Mike Rogers – Can’t Stop
The indie dance trio from Amsterdam, Mike Rogers, makes fun, hook-laden, indie-rock. A case in point is Can’t Stop (seen/heard here) that I can’t stop listening to. It’s made the playlist while writing this review multiple times. Take a listen and you will see why. The band’s name is a combination of the two DJ/producers names Mike and Roger who recruited Kita Menari’s Micha to provide vocals. The result is phenomenal!
Lyrically, Can’t Stop looks at life from a lonely man’s perspective. He’s reminiscing about when he was a boy and he tried to do everything right but felt that he failed because people didn’t understand him. In the end, he battles against those feelings in hopes of exorcising his negative thoughts. The video echos the feelings well: a man running, then trapped, then free. Vocally, Micha’s baritone has a wonderful range and generates a lot of feeling in the music. The music itself is driving, well-executed, and well-produced. That’s not easy to say on most tracks these days. Mike Rogers is planning a debut full length for early in 2023.
You can find more information on Mike Rogers by heading up to their website. Here you will find all of their social and streaming links as well as nice, concise, biography. The only downside to the website is that it does not have a secure certificate, which these days is frowned upon. That said, there’s nothing for sale there, so it’s not a huge risk.
Check out a single from a group that creates great indie rock from some pretty unlikely combination of skills. There’s plenty to love in Can’t Stop, so let’s hope there is much more coming when they release their LP early next year!
Note: Just when things were returning to a semblance of normality, the COVID 19 virus is again heating up in many areas of the country. It’s so disheartening to know that we have the tools to make this a non-event, by simply getting vaccinated and fully boosted. The virus has the potential, again, to shut down performances for musical artists. For this reason, artists such as Mike Rogers could still use your purchases. If your situation allows it, consider purchasing more in these tough times. Please, if you are physically able to do so, get vaccinated. — Vodka
