Niagara Moon falls into that perfect Vodka category: “Music that isn’t the same old thing, mostly.”  Who Needs Who? (seen/heard here), is a bouncy little melody that is very singable. Niagara Moon is Thomas Erwin, his singing partner that often provides harmonies for Erwin’s creations, Huimin Wan, and a veritable card hand of collaborators. What better way to introduce a new LP, than to release a single that plays over and over in your head?  I love this! That new LP, by the way, is Good Dreams (release date not known as yet), which came about due to a sleepless period in Erwin’s life. 

Erwin’s compositions are full of whimsy and fun. Surrounded by keyboards and other instruments, he creates midi masterpieces that don’t sound like tinker-toys, but rather full-blown pop tunes. All (or at least most) of the tracks on Good Dreams were created under quarantine. It was this isolation that fueled the worry and sleeplessness, but also the creativity. Good Dreams concentrates on finding the silver lining in bad situations, and if Who Needs Who? is any indication, it will be very successful in transforming that message!

Speaking of Who Needs Who?, the lyric here is all about self-love and putting out of your head all of those who would treat you poorly.

Niagara Moon began around 2015 when Thomas Erwin began recording under that moniker. The debut LP, Eating Peaches, was released in January 2017 and has been followed since by two additional LPs (Back To Something New, 2018, and Fuzzy Thinking, 2020 and an EP. Good Dreams rounds out the number of LPs to four and based on the quality of the previous releases, it likely won’t be the last. That’s a good thing for music lovers everywhere!
