Son Little – Blue Magic (Waikiki)
Son Little makes wonderful rhythm and blues and soul. He’s grown from the seeds that he planted with his 2015 debut self-titled long-player, which heralded the roots of this music, to construct new funky soundscapes for his sophomore effort, New Magic (due out September 2017). Blue Magic is from that soon-to-be-released LP.
Working as both a singer, songwriter and musician as well as a producer, Son Little has toured with diverse acts such as Shakey Graves and Mumfort & Sons to name just two. In 2016, his production talents won him a Grammy for Best Roots Performance for his work with Mavis Staple’s See That My Grave Is Kept Clean.
Though Son Little enjoyed touring and performing, he kept noodling with bits of songs on the side, knowing that he would need to find a quiet place to pull these new songs together. That finally happened and the result is New Magic.
You can find more information on Son Little by visiting his website, including purchase options, although the bandcamp.com link is not visible via the website and a nice bio. If you don’t want to wait (and you shouldn’t) until September to get a Son Little fix, check out and purchase his former self-titled LP or the EP, Songs I Forgot, from the aforementioned store or bandcamp.com links.
