The Bats – It’s Not The Same

A band from New Zealand that has had Vodka’s love and affection for decades, is The Bats. This is a band that performs with the same lineup they had clear back in 1982. Vodka’s only other post by the band, is the wonderful tribute to the Christchurch area in NZ following the 2011 earthquake, Simpletons, back in August 2013.  Here is a new studio release of It’s Not The Same from the band’s 2011 long-player, Free All The Monsters. It’s a great way to announce the band’s upcoming…

Meg Myers – Motel

Not quite a year ago, Meg Myers, a rocker that Vodka has been following for some time, finally released her first long-player, Sorry (September 2015), after two excellent EP’s, Daughter In The Choir (2012) and Make A Shadow (2014), along with a host of equally well-done music videos. We can’t understand why she has yet to become a household word in the rock n’ roll fan base. Ms. Myers was really active right up until she was picked up by Warner Music and then things got pretty quiet.  I’m still…

Matto Rules – Tonight

You may remember Swiss band Matto Rules from the Vodka posting almost a year ago for the beautiful, haunting, Saranda. Well, the long-awaited long-player for the band, What Comes Around (March 2016) is finally here, and it is worth the wait as demonstrated by Tonight above. As with the earlier Saranda, Matto Rules has plenty of the plaintive and haunting, but What Comes Around displays a willingness to play with the outer edges, rocking up the tempo (Tonight, Somewhere Else) or the middle ground (Alive, Let It Rain) all the time maintaining…

Hayley Richman – I’ll Be Your Crime

Hayley Richman has released a long-players worth of haunting pop-rock singles since 2013, but to date, no long-player itself.  Combining intriguing lyrics and haunting melodies, Ms. Richman produces music that is commanding and personal, sometimes deceptively simple and sometimes obviously complex, with an eye towards rockier refrains and bridges. The effect is very pleasing! I’ll Be Your Crime, seen here, was released in September 2015. There is not a lot of information on Hayley Richman out there, but she does have a Facebook page, YouTube channel, and a…

Courtney Barnett – Nobody Really Cares If You Don’t Go To The Party

Courtney Barnett is a brilliant indie-rocker that has appeared here many times in the past. In March 2015, she released her first full-length long-player, Sometimes I sit and think, and Sometimes I just sit, after several equally dazzling EP and single releases going back to 2012. We have highlighted all of those releases along the way. Nobody Really Cares If You Don’t Go To The Party is just one more example of the delightful rock that comes from the mind…
