Alex Winston – Velvet Elvis

Alex Winston combines the quirkiness of artists like Cyndi Lauper and Kate Bush with the pop savvy of Madonna and Washington.  On her debut full-length, King Con she exhibits a fondness for indie instrumentation and wild rhythms, managing to sound fresh and new, yet accessible.  On Velvet Elvis, she shows all of these qualities in spades. You can find more information on Alex Winston by visiting her web site or checking out her MySpace and Facebook pages. Give her a listen. She’s worthy of a purchase,…

Eva & Manu – Feet In The Water

If you are following this blog, you’ll recall that I posted a track from Eva & Manu back on January 23, 2012.  This folk-pop duo has been traveling around Europe, working for their room and board, and playing and writing music about their experiences and feelings as they go.  It’s a tremendous effort, by two very talented people.  Check out their Travel In Music blog, to learn more.   Posting this track now, is an effort by yours truly,…

Tenpenny Joke – She

https://youtu.be/LMRfPlLsPrY Several years old now, this rocker is still a “sound” favorite of mine.  Straight forward rock and roll in the style that embeds itself in you and has you singing the chorus.  Tenpenny Joke  rocks in a very accessible way.  She literally does “get inside your head,” as the lyric says. There’s plenty to love here, from the otherworldly intro, to the violin and guitar trailing lick, to the masterful guitar and vocal work in the middle.  You can download Tenpenny Joke’s full length Ambush on All Sides here for free but consider donating something to the band. You can find out more…

The War On Drugs – Brothers

I’m going to have to check out more from The War on Drugs.  Brothers, from the 2011 full-length, Slave Ambient, is a strange and eerie song.  Musically compelling and beautiful, the video is a collage that creates more questions than answers.  Watching and listening, you have to wonder what the rest of the story is.    The War on Drugs can be found here, but the best information appears to be over on Secretly Canadian. If haven’t yet, check out this fine…

Jenny O. – Well OK Honey

I like music with a bit of bluesy soul in it.  Jenny O gives you a full dose, with 2010’s Well Ok Honey.  This is a playful tune that you just can’t help bobbing your head and swaying your body to. The video keys in on the fun, and never stops!  Check out Jenny O on her web site, her MySpace page or on Facebook.  Keep on singing Jenny! (Source: https://www.youtube.com/)
