Side Hustle – To Be Free

Side Hustle is a Toronto jangle pop group with some chops. They don’t have much in their catalog as yet, but what is there shows great promise. To Be Free is from the band’s Live At The Root EP (March 2018).  Side Hustle has a website and Facebook page and you can find their EP as well as a couple of singles, on their bandcamp.com site. Songwriting is shared by Pete Casey and Chloë Doucet with bandmates Charlie Graham and Dylan Bridger. There’s more than a little retro flavor here…

S. Carey – More I See

     S. Carey (Sean Carey) creates lovely layered landscapes of musical goodness on his third full-length, Hundred Acres (February 2018), which begs the question: Why has Vodka missed the last two efforts? The number of song samples we click through to find goodness increases with the ease at which musicians of all stripes and, um, talents, can self-publish their music. All I can say is that we try, and sometimes we get lucky. Enter More I See (seen/heard here), from the aforementioned new long-player, a look at life from…

Good Old War – Part Of Me

On the heels of 2015′s magnificent Broken Into Better Shape and a long stretch of touring, comes Good Old War’s new EP, Part Of You (February 2018), and as demonstrated from this acoustic performance of Part Of Me, it should not disappoint! Good Old War is not a stranger to Vodka, having appeared here a few times over the last 5 years. Their sound is edgy pop with folk-like stories that is so immediately accessible, it should be a constant member of any good playlist.  There isn’t a…

Gregory Ackerman – Keep Falling

We aren’t crazy about lyric videos here at Vodka, but we have to make exceptions when the music is this good. It is, after all, about the music here and Gregory Ackerman’s music silently asks to be heard. Enter Keep Falling from his debut long-player And Friends due out in May.  There is almost no information about Gregory Ackerman except what is available via a couple of articles featuring him and his music: One at Attwood Magazine and one on For Folk’s Sake. No website, except this one that…

Hollie Cook – Postman

Hollie Cook was on Vodka’s radar briefly over 5 years ago, but for some reason, we never went back to check her out again. Hey, it’s just like anything else you do, sometimes there is just so much to filter through!  Anyway, Hollie has a new long-player out, Vessel Of Love (January 2018) that is full of well-polished pop/reggae jewels. There is no video available for the new material as yet, so to re-introduce Vodka readers to Hollie, we looked to her most recent long-player prior to Vessels, Twice…
