The Western States Motel – Powerlines

First, a disclaimer: The Western States Hotel have newer music out-most recently Freeway Freeway Riverbed from 2011, but this is a video blog, and the only video I could find from the band is this lone entry from 2007. It’s a great song, so there’s no reason for feeling guilty about it, I think it’s a little odd in this day and age, when a group or band doesn’t use everything at their disposal to market themselves.  But hey, that’s my opinion…

Hey Geronimo – Why Don’t We Do Something

I haven’t laughed this hard in awhile. The video for Why Don’t We Do Something? from Brisbane Australia’s Hey Geronimo, is just one of the funniest music videos in a long time. Using real life video games, such as Plants Vs. Zombies and Angry Birds (to name two), the band’s ode to action is graphically displayed. The music is delightfully up-beat pop that will keep your foot tapping while you watch. Hey Geronimo released their five-song EP in June, of which…

De-Phazz – No Jive

De Phazz is a delightful combination of jazz, hip-hop, r&B, soul and pop. The music is layered with strings, scratches and found sounds.  The end result is beautiful and intriguing.  Here on No Jive from the 1997 long-player Detunized Gravity, everything is evident. The brainchild of German producer Pit Baumgartner, the lineup of artists that appear on De Phazz offerings has changed from CD to CD, with some notable regulars given frequent billing. While this track dates back to 1997, the band continues to…

Bread – If

Ok, this is going to date me a lot-which in this case is OK-because I’ve been married to the same woman for 36 years today.  We have three wonderful grown children, and have shared ups and downs, laughter and tears, success and failure. We have hacked out a place for ourselves on this wonderful world of ours, and while the journey hasn’t always been roses, our love is stronger today than it was 36 years ago. In honor of that journey, this is the song…

Beecher’s Fault – Liars

The video of the song Liars from Beecher’s Fault 2011 full-length self-titled release, features feet. Yes, I know, it’s a bad play on words, but it is an interesting way to look at relationships via foot attitude. Beecher’s Fault weaves alt-pop instrumentation with smooth vocal delivery. The results are perfectly balanced pop-rock fusion with lyrics that are easily heard above the instruments. It’s not like instrumentation is underneath necessarily, it’s just used sparingly to great effect. In June of this year, Beecher’s Fault…
