Matrimony – Obey Your Guns

Obey Your Guns is an anthem to youth and seizing the day. It takes up a marching, celebratory tone, and cautions listeners to follow their dreams before they are too old to do it.  Matrimony combines Americana and Folk influences to create, if not a unique sound, then at least a fully textured one. Lead vocal duties are shared by husband-wife team Jimmy Brown and Ashlee Hardee Brown, with the former playing lead guitar and the latter providing keyboards as needed. Wool On Wolves – Midnight Avenue

The pulsating intro (guitars and drums) is instantly a contagious and continuous element in Midnight Avenue from the latest long-player (November 2012), Measure Of Progress,  by the Canadian five-piece, Wool On Wolves. Add some great textured horn fills within the body of the song, and the emotional vocal delivery, and you have a first-rate indie rock offering. Check out Wool On Wolves by visiting them at their web site, (yep, all the usual links are there) and consider a purchase. (Source: https://www.youtube.com/)

Emma Louise – Boy

Back in February, I reviewed a track by up-and-coming Australian pop singer-songwriter, Emma Louise. You can find the 4 track EP, Full Hearts & Empty Rooms (hard copy only) for a pricey $10…

I Am Not Lefthanded – Alone

Alone is a video single from I Am Not Lefthanded’s June 2012 long-player, The Fire And The Sigh. “This is not the darkest night I’ve known, alone” sings lead singer Kathryn Williams, while parading through all manner of monsters, ghosts and freaks in not so monstrously, ghostly or freakish ways.  There is more than a little humor here. Given all that, you might think that the song craft here would be cheesy, but nothing could be further from the truth.  I…
