Year: 2013

Coming In The New Year

Blog Posting Changes The last few months have been difficult. Scouring my sources for music that “Isn’t the same old thing-mostly,” has become a real chore. I cannot count the number of times I’ve clicked on a track on Bandcamp, Band Soup or Reverbnation, only to listen to a few seconds of  the track and hear the same tired introductory chords, or to get past the introduction to the vocal only to find a simple mimic of another artist. Some of the foreign lands have helped keep me in tracks, Australia, New Zealand and the UK, but the sum total is,…

A Little More Vodka – YouTube Playlist 2013

As with the YouTube playlist for 2012, 2013’s list is also very long (173 songs). That means if you are looking for something to play in the background while you work, you can certainly fire this list up. Blissfully, Vodka switched to every Wednesday posts in 2014 and beyond, so the playlists are not terribly long for those years. There’s a lot of good music here though, including more from Courtney Barnett, Meg Myers. Listen if you are bold!

The Spring Standards – Only Skin

The Spring Standards are a favorite of mine, having seen them perform live which is a real treat by the way. The beautiful Only Skin is from the band’s May 2012 long-player, Yellow//Gold.  The band doesn’t stick to any one style, which makes listening to their music an adventure. Seemingly capable of delivering on anything they touch musically, The Spring Standards are best experienced live, so check out their concert and appearance schedules to see when they will be performing near you. If you…

Hey Geronimo – Carbon Affair

Hey Geronimo are at their comedic best when they are satirizing something. Here on Carbon Affair, the band takes on all those old beach party movies of the sixties and looks insane-but good-while doing it. Hey Geronimo first made their appearance on ’A Little More Vodka’ back in August 2012, with the hilarious spoof on video games, Why Don’t We Do Something? You can find more information on Hey Geronimo by visiting the band’s web site (which wasn’t available back in 2012). Carbon Affair…

Piers Faccini – Reste la marée

I may not always know what Piers Faccini is saying, but I love the way he says it. Here on Reste la Marée, Piers mournful baritone massages the listeners brain with goodness.  This isn’t Piers first appearance on ’A Little More Vodka.’ He made his debut here over a year ago with Tribe. And went on to be listed in the top 40 tracks from 2012, ’Best Of Vodka 2012.‘  You can find more information on Piers Faccini by visiting his web site, which includes…
