Pavlove – Because Of You

Pavlove is a five-piece indie-pop band out of Ghent, Belgium that was formed in 2014 as a four-piece and played gigs around the Ghent area until recently heading to the studio. The EP, Because Of You (November 2016) is the culmination of a re-tuning of the band’s sound alongside producer Tobie Speleman. The result is a clean, retro-pop sound with a touch of melancholy and just enough of a modern vibe to make them accessible across many age groups and genres. The band is Reina Rasti and Fabian Rasti who…

Parsonsfield – Stronger

Since everything happens on our phones these days, it is fitting that Parsonsfield made the video to the opening track of their new long-player, Blooming Through The Black (September 2016), phone-centric. Part lyric, performance, and standard video, Stronger plays on all three to come up with a truly unique delivery. Roiki – Little Bit Of Nothing

Songwriter, producer and composer, Roy Gurel, is Roiki, and if you have never heard of him, let’s hope that this changes with this latest long-player Trouble Came (August 2016)!  Trouble Came is a collection of styles as much as it is a collection of songs. There is no style, seemingly, that is off-limits. The lead-off track, Begin Again, is typical modern pop-rock, while B My Girl is full of retro vibes.  Little Bit Of Nothing (seen/heard here) is very alternative pop. Throughout there are touches of blues…

Sinnober – Maria

Sinnober is a Danish-British three-piece, fronted by the instruments and vocals of husband and wife, Sebastian and Natalie Brice, with drummer Mike Griffiths providing additional vocals when needed. Maria is from the trio’s sophomore long-player, Little Wars (June 2016), which highlights exceptional songwriting and performances that leave the listener-at least this listener-awe struck. Starting their musical careers as a duo (Adam and Eve), Sebastian and Natalie morphed into Sinnober with the addition of Mike Griffiths, which adds a much-needed metronome to the musical creation.  Sebastian is also a male model as well…

Matto Rules – Tonight

You may remember Swiss band Matto Rules from the Vodka posting almost a year ago for the beautiful, haunting, Saranda. Well, the long-awaited long-player for the band, What Comes Around (March 2016) is finally here, and it is worth the wait as demonstrated by Tonight above. As with the earlier Saranda, Matto Rules has plenty of the plaintive and haunting, but What Comes Around displays a willingness to play with the outer edges, rocking up the tempo (Tonight, Somewhere Else) or the middle ground (Alive, Let It Rain) all the time maintaining…
