Sinnober – Successful

Vodka announced the release of Projection (October 2018), the latest release from the great pop duo, Sinnober, back in August, with the first single from the new long-player, Angels Of Fire And Snow.  That long player should be out by the time you read this, which means you should immediately head up to Sinnober’s bandcamp.com page and pick up a copy in your preferred medium. I’m perhaps even more excited by this long-player because of the diversity of the tunes that have been released thus far, which include this jazzy bit…

Big Little Lions – Find Your Tribe

Five years ago and change, Vodka posted a wonderful one-off by singer/songwriter Helen Austin, called Perfect Girl. Just recently, I took a trip back through the archives, landed on that track, and wondered what happened to Helen. Thankfully, she is still out there, making music, as part of a duo now called Big Little Lions. Enter Find Your Tribe (seen/heard here), the lead-off single to that wonderful new collection of songs titled Alive And Well (February 2018). Paul Otten, a singer/songwriter in his own right, joins Helen…

Vera Jonas Experiment – Last Song

It was a long time ago (January 14, 2014) when Vodka first met Vera Jonas Experiment, which was right around the release of their 2013 long-player by the same name, Game. Since that time, Vera and the band have been busy, releasing an EP, two additional long-players, and a couple of singles to date. One of those singles, Last Song (seen/heard here), was released in May 2018. The band is preparing to embark on a tour to Asia in September and a European tour in November. The…

Side Hustle – To Be Free

Side Hustle is a Toronto jangle pop group with some chops. They don’t have much in their catalog as yet, but what is there shows great promise. To Be Free is from the band’s Live At The Root EP (March 2018).  Side Hustle has a website and Facebook page and you can find their EP as well as a couple of singles, on their bandcamp.com site. Songwriting is shared by Pete Casey and Chloë Doucet with bandmates Charlie Graham and Dylan Bridger. There’s more than a little retro flavor…

S. Carey – More I See

     S. Carey (Sean Carey) creates lovely layered landscapes of musical goodness on his third full-length, Hundred Acres (February 2018), which begs the question: Why has Vodka missed the last two efforts? The number of song samples we click through to find goodness increases with the ease at which musicians of all stripes and, um, talents, can self-publish their music. All I can say is that we try, and sometimes we get lucky. Enter More I See (seen/heard here), from the aforementioned new long-player, a look at life…
