Andrew Taylor – Just Let It Happen

Regular Vodka readers will know that we have covered Dropkick many times in the past. They’ve got a fun, bouncy sound, that will keep your feet moving most of the time, anyway. Andrew Taylor of Dropkick has just released a set of music recorded between October 9th and 15th during the pandemic lockdown. Just Let It Happen (seen/heard here) came out of those recording sessions, and the subsequent long-player, Lockdown Session: October 2020 (October 2020).  Just Let It Happen (the video) showcases the multiple talents of Taylor, who…

Mylittlebrother – Howl

Proving that the life expectancy of rock music is not over-not by a long shot-mylittlebrother’s latest long-player, Howl (Due October 30, 2020), is a testament to rock evolution. Fueled by melodies, harmonies, energy, and lyrical interplay, Howl excels! The subject matter is a little dark in places, but the music elevates it all to a feeling of celebration. The title-track (seen / heard here) takes on giving everything to a relationship, with lead songwriter and frontman, Will Harris, singing: “I, I thought you were ill. So I gave all the blood I could spare, All…

Meg Myers – Running Up That Hill

It came as no surprise in January when Vodka favorite Meg Myers hit number 1 on the Billboard singles chart. What surprised me was that she made that number 1 chart-topper with a remake of Kate Bush’s 1985 hit Running Up That Hill (seen/heard here). Not that there’s anything wrong with that song. In fact, Myers’ interpretation of that song just reminds you what a great piece of music it actually is. The surprise comes that Myers’ own works haven’t made the same splash. They should! Vodka…

Dropkick – Feeling Never Goes Away

Dropkick is preparing to release a new long-player, The Scenic Route, (coming February 7, 2020) on the Bobo Integral label and Vodka was honored to be able to listen to pre-releases of all of the tracks from that long player. Feeling Never Goes Away (seen/heard here), is the opening track on that new long-player, and the first single. Lyrically, this is the most positive message of all the tracks contained on The Scenic Route, but that isn’t saying too much. What all of these tracks contain, is…

Big Little Lions – Here We Go Again

Last night, Vodka had the pleasure of sitting in on a local house concert here in Nebraska. The venue was a wonderful old farmhouse, the attendees and hosts were warm and friendly, and the band, well that was the duo Big Little Lions. Vodka stumbled on Big Little Lions after checking, as I sometimes do, on the status of a performer that I had reviewed a number of years ago, Helen Austin. That look back found that Helen was still performing, but as a part…
