Sinnober – Maria

Sinnober is a Danish-British three-piece, fronted by the instruments and vocals of husband and wife, Sebastian and Natalie Brice, with drummer Mike Griffiths providing additional vocals when needed. Maria is from the trio’s sophomore long-player, Little Wars (June 2016), which highlights exceptional songwriting and performances that leave the listener-at least this listener-awe struck. Starting their musical careers as a duo (Adam and Eve), Sebastian and Natalie morphed into Sinnober with the addition of Mike Griffiths, which adds a much-needed metronome to the musical creation.  Sebastian is also a male model as well as…

Dani Cichon – Letter in the Sea

While Vodka is always in search of the new and different, sometimes we come across something that is not really different but executed beautifully.  Such is the case with Dani Cichon, a singer-songwriter from Nashville, that writes friendly love songs.  Enter Letter In The Sea, from Dani’s 4-song EP, Fall Together (May 2016), which is just such a song.  Dani’s voice flows easily between phrasings with a lovely little lilt. Each of the tracks on the EP falls into this not new, but well-executed, beautifully performed, mold.  …

Be About – Home

Get up and dance! Yep! That’s the feeling that the Italian band Be About invokes with the first listen of Home (May 2016) from the band’s freshman (as near as I can tell) effort of the same name. The instrumentation throughout the LP tends toward the acoustic and is much more in the pop-folk vein than the pop-rock of Home (seen/heard here). Home (the long-player) is a nice introduction to a band that has some obvious chops to carry it further and do more.  Be About has a nice website,…

Jon Bryant – Light

Jon Bryant weaves the mournful pop gem with mastery here on Light from Twenty Something, his latest (February 2016) long-player, which houses a collection of the ten tracks in the same vein. That isn’t to say that each song sounds the same-not at all, but he loves a touch of the minor key and it works very well for his vocal range and style.  Most importantly, the compositions here are beautiful! Twenty Something is Jon Bryant’s junior effort, preceded by Two Coasts For Comfort (October 2009) and What Takes You…

Little Tybee – Languid

Little Tybee blends the ethereal with modern rock and folk (among other genres) to come up with an astounding masterpiece of sound on Languid. Check out the instrumentation here, it is everywhere and each instrument adds its own texture, its own voice.  After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Little Tybee’s fourth album, which includes Languid, should be out any time. You can find the band’s previous two long-players, Humorous To Bees (2011) and For Distant Viewing (2013) on the band’s bandcamp.com site. Little Tybee doesn’t appear to have a website but…
