Hania Rani – Don’t Break My Heart

Polish artist Hania Rani just released her second full-length LP this year, Ghosts, following up February’s On Giacometti (soundtrack). Ghosts (just in time for Halloween) is a haunting set of compositions, including Don’t Break My Heart (seen/heard here). Hania Rani is a composer, singer, songwriter, and producer, and she uses all of her skills to great effect on Ghosts. Collaboration is the order of the day as well, with Patrick Watson and Ólafur Arnalds chipping in. Duncan…

Peter Wise – Only Gotta Start

Pop singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist,  Peter Wise makes his Vodka debut with Only Gotta Start (seen/heard here). This is the first single from a forthcoming as yet unnamed 13-track LP. Wise has a beautiful tenor voice, and he’s not afraid to let it ring out. I  was torn between using this version, which includes other instruments and backing vocals, and this one with Wise, a microphone, and a keyboard. In the end, I chose the full-instrumentation version, but they are…

Lynne Hanson – Weeds

A few weeks back, (the evening of Easter Sunday 2023 to be exact) I had the absolute pleasure of attending a house concert where Lynne Hanson performed. Weeds (seen/heard here) was one of the tracks she played that night. It’s a great song about being your own person. The concert was a wonderful event, and I highly encourage you to go see her if she happens to be in your neighborhood or anywhere close to you. Lynn Hanson (right)…

Layla – Yellow Circles

In spite of the unfortunate name, which makes a Google search turn up every version of the song “Layla” known to man, “Layla”, the singer, is an extremely interesting and talented artist. She is relatively new to the music scene, but this resident of London, England, has some chops and could very easily break loose. She should at least. There is little info on Layla, but you can navigate to her web site (tumblr blog) and hit her other links from there. Then slip…

Emma Louise – Boy

Back in February, I reviewed a track by up-and-coming Australian pop singer-songwriter, Emma Louise. There is something in the haunting delivery of both that track from February (Jungle), and Boy from June 2012, that holds you captive. This is great music from an artist you are bound to hear more of in the future. Unfortunately, there is still no one-stop shop for everything Emma Louise. You can find the 4 track EP, Full Hearts & Empty Rooms (hard copy only) for a pricey $10…
