Sofia Talvik – Broken (Steel Guitars In Heaven) – House Concert Review

Vodka has been to many house concerts this Summer even hosting one of them. That has made it a great Summer indeed. Sofia Talvik (with her husband, sound technician, and road engineer, Jonas Westin)  was the latest artist. I think my wife said it best: “From the moment she opened her mouth and began singing, she had me.” She introduced us to new music from her as yet unreleased LP (due out August 14, 2023), Center Of The…

Arielle Silver – Bramble Vine

Arielle Silver first crossed Vodka’s path in 2020, and I was impressed. She had been making music at that point since around 2004, so she wasn’t new to the business. The review for What Really Matters appeared in March 2020, followed by the review for Headlights in May. With the pandemic happening during that time, many musicians had to get creative to continue to make money in the many months that followed. She hasn’t had an LP since 2020’s…

Chris Brain – Golden Days

You should recognize the voice of Chris Brain. His music and voice distinctly resemble Nick Drake, as I noted a little over a year ago in the review for Bound To Rise found here. Warehouse of Thieves – Home Now

Warehouse of Thieves Home Now (seen/heard here) is a beautiful song that is warm, cozy like a warm blanket on a cold winter night. Warehouse of Thieves is the newly named folk group (formerly The League of Ukulele Gentlemen) after adding Tim and Jake Smithies to the lineup. While Vodka was unfamiliar with the band’s earlier work, a quick search found some things to listen to, and I have to say that I like the new fuller sound much better than…

Daniel Niehoff – Civil War Letters – House Concert Review

This weekend (Sunday, June 18, 2023) I had the pleasure of attending a house concert where Daniel Niehoff from Paducah, Kentucky,  was the performer. It was a hot Summer evening in Nebraska, but once the music started, no one was thinking about the heat. Daniel is a very engaging and positive young artist. His songs run from the serious, such as Civil War Letters (seen/heard here) to the hilariously ridiculous, such as Big Ol’ Truck. These are…
