SHEL – You Could Be My Baby

It’s only been a few weeks back since we posted the review for SHEL’s Rooftop, from the Holbrook sisters’ latest long-player of edgy indie-pop, Just Crazy Enough (May 2016). You Could Be My Baby has to be where the title of the LP came from as the lyric, “You could be my baby, you could be my baby, you seem just crazy enough” is the anthem in the refrain here, and I’m sure there is some truth to that refrain, given the slightly wild aura that SHEL…

Peaness – Seafoam Islands

The video for Seafoam Islands (seen/heard here) from the three-piece indie-pop band, Peaness (Chester, England) is the B-side to their latest single, Same Place, due out by the time you read this (January 2017). SHEL – Rooftop

SHEL is the sisters Holbrook as a mnemonic and SHEL is also a powerful alternative pop-folk band, alive with creativity! Members Sarah, Hannah, Eva, and Liza are positively fraught with talent, blending their cool harmonies with acoustic and electronic instruments that are fun and functional. The latest long-player, Just Crazy Enough (May 2016) is full of beauty and energy as highlighted by Rooftop (seen/heard here).  Though all of the sisters share vocal duties, lead vocal falls to the pretty and sometimes plaintive pipes of Eva. Instrumentally, SHEL is well represented, with Sarah playing…

Stephanie Mabey graced the pages of Vodka for a brief moment back in October 2012, with her lyric video for The Zombie Song, for the long-player, Wake Up Dreaming. It’s been a long wait, but now, four years and change later, there is a very interesting EP available, I Still Taste Fire (September 2016), from which Heart-Shaped Hologram (seen/heard here) comes. Stephanie’s voice has always been pleasing and her tunes resonate with singable melodies and refrains. What sets her apart here from herself back in 2012 and from other…

[dunkelbunt] & Alix – Egal

Hailing from Vienna, Austria, [dunkelbunt] (a.k.a. Whatever it is, I dare you… no, double-dog dare you, to listen without moving something on your body (hands, feet, head)! This amalgam of sound is so pleasing and uplifting! Get your dance shoes on! Egal featuring Alex (seen/heard here) is from the [dunkelbunt] long-player Mountain Jumper (March 2015). The collection is full…
